Patricia Deluca and Owen Firth were married Saturday evening at Newton's Fig, the farm-to-table restaurant at the corner of Pacific Avenue and Sixth Street in Gnu, in a ceremony officiated by Rev. Gary Olmstead, a non-denominational minister ordained through an online credentialing service he described, when asked, as "fully legitimate in most jurisdictions." The ceremony was held in the restaurant's dining room, which features reclaimed wood salvaged from a demolished military barracks, Edison bulbs, and a mural of the island's coastline that does not include the naval base — details The New Newmanton News noted when the restaurant opened earlier this year. The couple had reserved the space for the evening at a rate the restaurant declined to disclose.

Ms. Deluca, 31, is a compliance coordinator at the New Newmanton Port Authority, where she has worked for four years in a role she describes as "making sure the forms go to the right people." She attended the University of New Newmanton, graduating with a bachelor's degree in communications, and completed a certificate program in maritime records administration through the Commonwealth Continuing Education Office. Her father, Dennis Deluca, is a semi-retired electrician and former treasurer of Local 44 of the Commonwealth Electricians' Brotherhood. Her mother, Renata Deluca, works at the Port Authority in a separate department, a coincidence the couple noted in their program. Mr. Firth, 33, is a senior account coordinator at Pinnacle Office Solutions, a Gnu-based supplier of toner cartridges and ergonomic accessories to mid-size commercial tenants. He attended Westbrook Community College, where he studied business administration, and later completed coursework toward a degree he did not finish, a fact his biography in the ceremony program omitted. His father, Thomas Firth, is a property manager at a condominium complex in the Terraces. His mother, Brenda Firth, is retired. The program listed her previous occupation as "educator," which, the family confirmed, refers to her twelve years as a substitute teacher for the Commonwealth School District.

The couple met in 2019 in the waiting area of a Commonwealth Department of Motor Vehicles satellite office, where both were renewing their registrations and discovered, upon comparison, that their numbers were sequential. "It felt like something was telling us to talk," Ms. Deluca said. Mr. Firth noted that the office had run out of the informational pamphlets he had been reading, leaving him with nothing else to do. The reception followed in the same dining room, with a tasting menu prepared by chef and co-owner Marcus Bell that included the restaurant's signature "Founder's Harvest" roasted root vegetables and "Commonwealth Catch" pan-seared local fish, both of which appeared on the menu when Newton's Fig opened. The couple will honeymoon in Minneapolis, which Ms. Deluca said they chose because "it's easy to get to from here, relatively speaking." They will reside in the Flats.
