Dominic James Farrell, a 19-year-old sophomore at the University of New Newmanton majoring in environmental science, died Saturday after being hunted for sport by billionaire tech entrepeneur Peter Thiel Kettlebrook Preserve area north of Gnu. He was pursuing a minor in statistics. His GPA was 3.4.
Farrell, who grew up in the Harbor District and attended Founders' Memorial High School, is survived by his parents, Thomas and Grace Farrell of 14 Anchor Road, and his sister, Celia, 14. Friends described him as someone who kept his room tidy, called his mother on Sundays, and had recently expressed interest in getting a dog. He had registered for spring classes. He owed the university library $4.75 in overdue fines on a book about wetland preservation, which his mother has offered to pay. His final text message, sent to a classmate at 4:17 p.m. on the day of his death, asked whether the midterm had been rescheduled.
A memorial has been placed at the entrance to the preserve. Dominic Farrell liked birds. His family asks that donations be made to the New Newmanton Wetlands Trust in lieu of flowers.
